Tressie Mobley called the meeting to order with a prayer. Melba passed out an agenda.
Reunion Business:
1. The Reunion:
A. Schedule of all activities- Friday, July 6th Fish Fry at 7:00 p.m. the location is yet to be determined.
Saturday, July 7th Picnic from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Donaldson Park. If it rains then it will be held at the
community center. Saturday, July 7th Party Night from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at the Community Center.
Sunday July 8th Worship Service at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church on Lemon Street in Sebring,
Florida. Meet at Pat Carter’s at 10:30 a.m. to carpool. The banquet will be held at Homer’s after church on
Sunday. We may carpool from the church.
1. Banquet- Melba will do the program. Those who do not pay dues and would like to attend the
banquet must pay for their meal. Kids under age 3 eat free. Children ages 4-7 years old eat for 3.99
Children 8-12 eat for 4.99. Taxes and gratuity were not yet determined for the children. Adults ages
13+ will have to pay $10.50. Color-coded tickets will be provided for those who have paid their dues
and do not have to pay for their meal.
B. Committees needed: This will be discussed at the next meeting.
C. Hotel Prices and Reservation number: Hotel Reservations are to be made at the Quality Inn. In order to
get the special rate you must mention that you are a part of the Sims-Gant reunion. There are 10 rooms
blocked off but more are available if needed. The regular price is 89.99 per night but the special rate is
74.99 per night. There is a continental breakfast, refrigerator, iron, microwave as well as other amenities
in the double rooms. You must reserve your room by June 2nd, the sooner the better. The phone number
is (863) 385-4500.
D. Activity Supplies: We will ask family members to bring games so that they will not have to be purchased.
Cynthia said that she has sacks for racing. Tressie said that Sherrick might have a Karaoke machine we
can use.
2. T-shirt
A. The color choices that were nominated were deep purple with beige print, burnt orange with white or
black print, and khaki with navy print. We voted and deep purple with beige print it is.
B. The price of t-shirts is $5.00 and is not included in your dues. It was suggested that the next year’s
reunion’s dues include the price of shirts. Anyone who needs a size 4x and up must provide a deep
purple shirt so that Cynthia can have the company print it. Paid orders must be returned by May 1st.
3. Rights of Passage
A. Melba will make and send out a form to parents who want to recognize their children’s achievements. (I.e.
fine arts, sports, honor roll, deans list, and citizens award.) Also, we would like to acknowledge those who
have graduated in the past 2 years and this too will be included on the form.
B. Fund raisers- A universal gift basket raffle will be done by Linda.
Other business:
A. Notification of the amount of dues you owe and information about the t-shirt orders will be given by
phone. By the next meeting a record keeping and receipt book will be purchased to help everyone keep
a tab of their dues. Cynthia, Linda, Earl, and Detrice volunteered to make phone calls.
The next meeting will be on Saturday April 14th at Arletha Sims’ house at 4:00 p.m.

Minutes from the last meeting: read by Bill Bailey and approved by the club.
Treasure report: The balance in the treasure at the time of the meeting was $786.05.
Old Business:
*Cynthia presented some by-laws information: The by-laws committee made a promise to have the
by-laws completed and ready to present to the club at the next meeting. It was also discussed what
part Robert's Rule of Order should pay in the by-laws and in our meetings.
*Patricia reported that she spoke with the accountant at the bank and was advised that the type of
account we (the club) have is best left as it is. Right now the account is under the names of Patricia
Carter and Melba Sims with free checked and no taxes.
*The Rights of Passage committee, which consists of Patricia Sims, Bill Bailey, and Melba Sims will
meet to come up with a name for this activity. They will also recommend some activities for our
youth to do to go through the rights of passage. Also, they will identify ways to acknowledge or
reward our youth once they have completed their task.
*The up-keep of the web site was discussed. The assistant secretary is currently doing it. Even
though she is doing an excellent job, is it her responsibility? Is that part of her job?
*The secretary has not attended the last few meetings. The assistant secretary could not come to
this meeting. Therefore at the next meeting we will discuss who is responsible for taking the minutes
and getting it to the Secretary and Assistant Secretary to put on the website and to mail out. The
Secretary is Amelia Evans and Katrina Sims is the Assistant Secretary.
New Business:
*Earl Sims, Sr. sent a letter to the meeting from the Lifting Young Lions Foundation of Excellence.
Cynthia Cann read the letter. The foundation is from Florida Memorial College support their youth
scholarship fund. It was discussed if the club should place and ad in their souvenir jouirnal and if so,
what size? It was motioned and voted that we not use the money in the kitty or treasure and collect
money from the family instead. Pat Carter would collect the money by Sept. 30th to be sent to Earl
by Oct. 10th. The size of the space will depend on the amount of money collected. If any money is
left over, it should be placed in the kitty.
*Doris sent in her new address, it will be added into the address book.
*Avon Park is the host city for the next family reunion. The host city members will form the reunion
committee and will organize and oversee all areas of the reunion. This committee will also include the
help of people outside of Avon Park. It was also discussed that everyone should be given a job during
the reunion, so they know what to expect. The reunion committee will assign these jobs. The date
for the next reunion is July 6th-July 8th, 2007.
The date for the next meeting is Jan 6, 2007. The location is unknown as of yet so if there are any
volunteers please let the president know. We will have our annual Christmas party at the home of
Arletha Sims on Dec. 16th beginning at 6:00 p.m. Melba Sims will send out more information about this
event.
I would also like for us to remember Johnny Smith and his family in our prayers. If anyone would like to
write him you can find the address in the guestbook of the website.

Melba Sims, Detrice Smith, and Roberta Smith.
The meeting was called to order with a prayer by Tressie Mobley. The previous meeting's minutes were read by
Melba Sims and were approved. The By-laws were read and the following changes were made:
1. Article III, item C #2 is to read: To fund the cost of condolences, flowers or the amount of $50.00 cash and
the cost of postage.
2. Article V, item C: delete financial report, from track the growth and history of the club.
3. Article V, item E add financial report
4. Article V, item H change from member to our histroy to: member on our history.
5. Article VI, item J add "of previous meeting" to within two weeks.
6. Article VI, item L change that meeting to forth coming meeting. Also, delete the last sentence.
7. Article VI, item M delete family from the family club.
8. Article VII, item C change program the lineup to arranging the lineup.
9. Article VII, item 9 delete to read Is to assure a smooth, efficient and enjoyable reunion.
10. Article IX last sentence will begin amendment revisions.
11. Delete what follows the ***** at bottom of bylaws.
The vote on the by-laws will be done at the March 3, 2007 meeting. If club members are unable to attend this
meeting please review the by-laws with changes and communicate any concerns to Melba Sims, Bill Bailey or a
by-laws committee member.
The dates for the 2007 reunion are July 6-8. The schedule is Friday, July 6th there will be a fish fry at 6:00
p.m. (Location is TBD.) There will be a Picnic on Saturday, July 7th at Donaldson Park from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00
p.m. It will be held at the community center if it rains. The Banquet will be held on Saturday July 7th at the Avon
Park Community Center from 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Worship will be held at Zion Baptist Church in Sebring,
Florida from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Dinner will be at Barnhills at 2:00 p.m.
Committees needed will be announced later. Supplies will be through Jacaranda Hotel and Sams Club.
Roberta and Detrice Smith will check on Hotel information.
Treasury Report: It is now at $1042.05. Earl Sims collected $252.00 in dues and $15.00 for the Kitty.
The next meeting will be at Pat Carter's house on March 3, 2007 at 4:00 p.m.

Our Chaplain Tressie Mobley called the meeting to order with prayer. Earl Sims read the minutes from the

*Check in on Friday July 6th at the Quality Inn.
*Fish Fry at Patricia Carter’s home starting no earlier than 7:00 p.m. Everyone must bring a covered dish. This
means a dish containing food for everyone to eat. J
Saturday July 7th 2007
* Breakfast is on your own. The hotel has a continental breakfast.
* Picnic: Activities available are fishing, swimming, volleyball, as well as Sack Racing, Dominoes, and games
provided by you the family members. The Grills have been taken care of. Seating is limited under the pavilion
so everyone is asked to bring chairs and tables if you have them. We will try to reserve two pavilions but it is not
guaranteed so lets be prepared. We may also move to the Community center depending on the weather.
* The Party Night will be at 7:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. at the Community Center. There will be a fashion show,
talent showcase, and a flashback presentation as well as games, and music. Carol Hamilton is the emcee.
There will be a Bid Whist and Spades Tournament. So get your partners ready.
Sunday July 8th 2007
* Worship Service at Zion Hill Church at 11:00 a.m. We will meet at Patricia Carter’s house at 10:30 a.m. to
carpool to the church. After church we will carpool to Homer’s. Melba will make flags so that no one will get lost
on the way to Homer’s.
* Banquet- Patricia Carter will be the emcee. We need volunteers to do a welcome, scripture and prayer at the
banquet. The banquet prices for non-dues paying guests are:
§ Children 3 and under: Free
§ Children 4 to 7 years old: $5.00
§ Children 8 to 12 years old: $6.00
§ Adults 13 and up: $12.00
§ Senior Citizens 55 and up: $11.00
Other business:
When the new stamps come out the club will purchase a roll of stamps for mail outs. We need to purchase trash
bags for clean up at the park and community center. The family purchased two full-page ads in a souvenir book
for Lifting Young Lions of Excellence’s Florida Memorial Scholarship fund. The booklets were passed around
and two were left in Avon Park. A card was read from The Dickey and Walker Family thanking us for prayers,
and support. Dues collected were $197.00 and $7.00 for the kitty.
The next meeting will be on May 5th at Patricia Carter’s house at 4:00 p.m.
