When: May 5, 2007
Where:  Patricia Carter’s House
Attendance: Linda Bailey, Cynthia Cann, Patricia Carter, Roberta Martin, Arletha Sims, Earl Sims, Melba Sims, Katrina Sims, Detrice Smith

The meeting was called to order. Earl led the family in prayer.  The minutes from the last meeting were read by Detrice.  The following correction
was made:  Cynthia reminded us that there was a list of names passed around at the meeting to make sure that no names were omitted from the t-
shirts and no misspellings.  The family approved the minutes read with the corrections.

A lot of the meeting was information solely for the Reunion Host and as a result, it has been omitted.

Program and Address Book- Pat gave Melba a copy of the program but it is still a work in progress, so if you want to be on program, it is not too
late.  Katrina is working on the address book to include addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses. So please get your information to Katrina
before the reunion if there have been any changes in your information by mail, through the site at http://www.simsgantfamily.com or e-mail:
Katrina@simsgantfamily.com.
Receipt book- We now have a receipt book so that everyone will know how much dues he or she owes and have paid.  Cynthia purchased one and
it will be taken out of her dues.
Hotel- Reservations must be made before June 2nd in order to get the reduced rate of 74.99.  Call the Quality Inn at (863) 385-4500.
History Book- The Historian, Cynthia Cann, is doing a history.  Earl Sims donated $60 to the books to reduce the amount taken from the Reunion
funds.
Fundraisers- There was talk of selling candy to help raise money for Scholarships but we decided against it.  There will be a basket raffle with
proceeds going to scholarship awards.  Linda will get a list of its contents for the next newsletter. Tickets will be $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00.
Awards- we need a list of people who graduated or received awards in the past two years so we will be able to acknowledge them with money,
prizes or awards. Send it via mail or the website questionnaire.
Banquet- there will be a list of paid people so be sure to pay before the banquet.  The price for non-dues paying guests is:
§        Children 3 and under: Free
§        Children 4 to 7 years old: $5.00
§        Children 8 to 12 years old: $6.00
§        Adults 13 and up: $12.00
§        Senior Citizens 55 and up: $11.00
T-shirts- There will be an additional charge for t-shirt orders placed after May 25th.  There will be a new logo because the leaves are too
complicated.
Welcome bag- there was a discussion concerning the contents of the welcome bag.  Cynthia, Melba, Linda and the Reunion committee will provide
its contents.
Other Business: Linda spoke to Laura Beatty and Lugenia Fox by phone and they said Hello and they love us dearly.  Roberta suggested that we go
back to tradition and start closing out the meetings with “May the Lord watch be with you while we are absent one from another…etc.” The family
was invited to family and friends day at New Mt. Olive AME.  Carol Hamilton was there as Sojourner Truth to welcome us.  The next meeting will
be on June 2nd at Patricia Carters house at 4:00 p.m.  $493.00 in dues was collected and  $3.00 for the Kitty along with some I.O.U.’s.  Also, Carol
Hamilton paid the $11.00 for her guest’s banquet ticket.

New Business:
‘It takes a family’
Project #1- Child will experience a formal dinner.  Linda Bailey has put together a package for families who would like to participate.  Let the Melba
or Linda know by the next meeting if you want to participate.  The package will include the names and functions of a place setting, the names of
courses of a meal, proper etiquette and manners, as well as other things.  The parent will be responsible for reviewing the information with their
child prior to the class that will be given by Linda Bailey.  After the class there will be a trip to a restaurant for the children to practice everything
they have learned.
Project #2- Child will open and use a bank savings account.  Some ideas for this activity include setting goal and ways for your child to earn money
for their savings account, use your child’s money to purchase toys that they want and show them how to keep a record of their account.  Outside
activities include a trip with the parent to open the account, helping in fundraisers such as bake sales or carwashes, or doing Christmas shopping
with the funds from their savings account.
Everyone who participates will receive a reward and possibly a monetary reward to the child who excels in all of the activities.  This is still a work
in progress so if you have any ideas or would like to participate in the manners class let Melba know by or at the next meeting.

Cynthia passed out paper work on DNA testing.  In hopes of finding out more about origin, history, and unknown relatives we voted to have a male
and female take the DNA test kits.  Cynthia will receive $300 to purchase the two DNA kits. And Ray Collins will take one of the swab test and we
have not decided on the female.  If you would like to volunteer for DNA testing contact Cynthia to see if you qualify.

The next family reunion will take place on July 3rd through the 5th, 2009.  We will decide the location of the reunion at the next meeting.  One of
the suggested host cities is Miami, and a possible activity is a cruise.  If you have any suggestions bring them to the next meeting.

Carol Hamilton collected kitty funds. Earl collected dues in the amount of $138.00.  The meeting was adjourned with a prayer. And we ate…y’all
should have been there the food was scrumptious. J

Next meeting will be on January 12th 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at Mae Lydia Howell’s home located at 353 W. Oleander Road in Avon Park, Florida 33825.
